Another
prized pupil of SHOTMAN Basketball Camps is Andrew
Biancosino of Edison. A three year starter at J.P. Stevens High
School in North Edison, Biancosino
helped lead the then 10th seeded Hawks to a Quarterfinal
berth in the 2004
Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament, where it took second
seeded Cardinal McCarrick to the wire before losing in overtime. The
team also defeated Perth Amboy three times that season, and ended
up in the Star-Ledger's Middlesex County Top Ten with a final overall
record of 11-13.
After
graduating J.P. Stevens in 2005, Biancosino moved on to Farleigh Dickinson
University, where he plays hoops at the Florham campus in Madison,
New Jersey. In his freshman
year at FDU-Florham, Biancosino played in all of the team's 25
games including one start. He averaged 14.4 minutes per game, and
scored 3.8 points per game on 33 of 102 shot attempts from the floor
including 8 of 33 from long range. In addition, the North Edison native
made 22 of 33 from the foul line while averaging 2.9 rebounds, 0.8
assists, and 0.5 steals per game. The Devils had their struggles during
that 2005-06
campaign with a 6-19 mark overall including a 3-11 record in the
Freedom Conference.
In his
sophomore
year, the 2006-07 FDU Devils made strides with a final
overall record of 17-10 including a 9-5 mark in conference play.
The team qualified for the Freedom Conference Tournament as well as
the ECAC Tourney. Biancosino made improvement, and it resulted in
a significant contribution by the former Stevens standout off the
bench. The FDU-Florham sophomore played in all 27 contests including
one start, and he averaged 17.2 minutes per game. In that playing
time, he shooting percentages went up as he shot 42 of 113 overall
from the floor for 37.2 percent including a 9 of 34 effort from beyond
the arc for 26.5 percent. Although his free throw shooting percentage
went down to 55.8 percent (29 of 52), his scoring average increased
to 4.5 points per game along with 3.5 rebounds per game, 0.8 assists
per game, and 0.4 steals per game.
As a
junior, Biancosino became a starter, and played a more significant
role on a team that was rebuilding. In a game captured by GMC Hoops
in November 2007, Biancosino put on a fine show in the first half
against
Misericordia of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (now Colonial
States Athletic Conference), and ended up with 14 points on 5
of 13 shooting overall including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc while
also collecting 4 rebounds, an assist, and a steal in a 69-45 loss.
On the season, Biancosino played and started in all 25 games for the
Devils, which were only 3-22 overall, and 2-10 in conference. He averaged
29.9 minutes per game, and connected on 76 of 214 shots for 35.5 percent
from the floor including a 22 of 84 effort from long distance for
26.2 percent
Furthermore,
Biancosino improved at the charity stripe making 32 of 44 attempts
for 72.7 percent. Putting all this together, the FDU-Florham junior
averaged 8.2 points per game to finish third on the team in scoring
while also collecting 4.1 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game,
and 0.8 steals per game. His efforts this past season as well as his
steady improvement over his three year tenure at FDU-Florham has gained
the respect of his head coach, Pete
Marion, who named him captain for the upcoming 2008-09 season.
Biancosino gives a good deal of credit to SHOTMAN for the development
of his game in recent years. The private lessons while on break from
school has made a difference. "SHOTMAN has helped me to make
adjustments to my shot and has helped me to maintain my shooting consistency,"
says Biancosino.
